Atmospheric Life Drawing Soiree

About this Event

Join the incredibly talented Maree Azzopardi for a unique 4 hour life drawing event . A guided experience full of art and music while drawing a professional live model.

This atmospheric informal Life Drawing session is open to all levels. It also offers a great opportunity for more experienced artists to draw and practice from life.

All drawing materials are included.

Angophora House is located within the Bouddi National Park, its proximity to nature allows the participants to be in an intimate and creative environment where fun and relaxation are optimal , the day will conclude with a gourmet grazing plate accompanied by a glass of prosecco.

Flower Paintings in Acrylics

Artist Workshop

In this one-day workshop you will be introduced to the basics of Acrylic painting. Students will explore the medium to better understand techniques and possibilities while learning to paint flowers. We will have a beautiful flower still life set up and we will begin by first drawing the still life then using acrylics to paint.

Students will gain confidence in their approach to the acrylic painting process. Through individual attention, Maree will assist students in handling the medium gracefully and uniquely for each student.

Course description

Learning to paint in acrylic is fun and easy. Beginners are welcome and the more experienced painters will find this course is refreshing while presenting plenty of challenges.

The focus of this course is learning about materials and techniques, the necessities of composition, colour mixing and how to transform a drawing into a completed painting.

This course is designed for anyone who wants to paint.

Course content

  • Understand the special qualities of acrylic paints from watercolour to impasto effects
  • Explore the various mediums for special effects
  • Choosing, using and looking after your tools – brushes and supports
  • Colour theory and mixing plus an exploration of the expressive and descriptive use of colour
  • Explore the use and qualities of transparent and opaque colours
  • Understand tone and its importance to the structure of a painting whether abstract or naturalistic
  • Compositional elements using colour, tone, positioning, perspective and painting techniques
  • A look at paintings, both modern and traditional, for their structural and expressive elements
  • An assessment of our own personal style and how to develop it more fully

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will have an understanding of:

  • acrylic paints
  • the use of the different acrylic mediums
  • how to construct a painting
  • colour, tone and paint quality in the structure and mood of a painting
  • different approaches to subject matter, expressive, constructive and/or descriptive
  • how to paint according to your own style and further develop your potential

  • Closed-in shoes required as we may step outdoors is weather permits
  • Please wear old clothes or bring an apron

Learn to paint with palette knife

Artist Workshop

Explore the art of palette knife painting and be fascinated by the range of effects, from textured impasto work to sweeping areas of flat colour.

Learn the basics of how to use a palette knife for applying paint, create awesome colourful and abstract paintings with acrylics.

Through teacher demonstrations – and loads of time to paint – this workshop will teach you the techniques behind the tool as well as plenty of tips and tricks. You’ll go home with the confidence to develop your new painting technique, as well as at least one framed canvas painting of your own creation.

This course is ideal for beginners to more experienced students.

  • What is a palette knife?
  • Knife painting techniques
  • Texture, layers and effects
  • Colour and medium

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop you will have:

  • an understanding about palette knife painting
  • practiced different painting techniques
  • learned about colour, texture and effects
  • produced your own abstract painting

Materials provided

Acrylic paints, canvases and palette knives

Please bring your own:

  • If you have a special knife, selection of paints and a palette you love you are more than welcome to bring them along
  • An apron to protect your clothes or please dress in old clothes that you don’t mind getting messy in

About the presenter

Robyn Wild Robyn taught for the New South Wales Department of Education and Training between 1979 and 2000, when she worked with students and teachers in numerous schools around Sydney as a classroom teacher and assistant principal. During that time she was also a regional literacy consultant and senior curriculum officer in the DET’s Early Learning Unit. She taught in New York as an exchange teacher in 1985 and again in 2001 as a literacy consultant. She has been a board member of PETAA and committee member of the Early Childhood Education Council and is currently on the committee of ALEA North. Robyn currently provides professional development to teachers around New South Wales as a literacy consultant and works with Education students from time to time at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University.
